Plumbing. Roofing. Restoration. Cleaning. Removals.
Home Services SEO in London
Nobody compares five quotes at 2am for a burst pipe. They tap the first result that looks real, and if it rings out they tap the second. Trade search is decided in seconds, which makes it the sector where ranking and answering the phone are genuinely the same project.
It is also the sector where most businesses have their Google Business Profile set up wrong. If you work from a van rather than a shop, you are a service-area business, and configuring that incorrectly quietly caps how far your pin can reach.

Why trade search rewards
Speed and Coverage
Demand in this sector splits cleanly and most sites ignore it. Emergency work is urgent, unpriced and decided on who answers. Scheduled work, a bathroom fit or a planned reroof, is researched, compared and decided on proof. Serving both from one page loses both.
Coverage is the second issue. A trade business earns from an area far wider than its postcode, but the Map Pack only shows you near your pin. Winning the wider area means real pages for the towns you actually cover, backed by the service-area setup that supports them.
What that changes in the campaign:
- Service-area business setup done properly: no fake storefront, address hidden where it should be, and service areas defined so they help rather than dilute.
- Emergency and scheduled split apart: one set of pages built for tap-to-call urgency, another built to be compared and trusted.
- A real page per area you cover: written to rank, not a template with the town name swapped, which is what gets trade sites filtered.
- Accreditations as citations: Gas Safe, NICEIC, TrustMark, Which? Trusted Trader and your trade body listings are trust signals and local links at the same time.
- Speed to lead wired in: missed-call text-back and instant routing, because the ranking only pays if somebody answers.

Specialisms
Different urgency, different seasonality, different proof. What stays constant is that the fastest credible answer wins the job.
Plumbing & Heating
Split between 24 hour emergencies and boiler installs, which are two separate businesses on one site.
Roofing
Storm driven and seasonal. The pages have to be live before the forecast, not after the leak.
Restoration & Damage
Insurance led, urgent and high value. Speed to lead decides who gets the job in the first hour.
Cleaning Companies
Recurring contracts plus one-off deep cleans, with commercial and domestic needing separate paths.
Removals & Storage
Sharply seasonal with a spring peak. Route and area pages built by April or you have missed it.
Electrical & Property Maintenance
Certification driven, where accreditation display does much of the persuading.
The trades
Local SEO Playbook
Profile first, then coverage, then the follow-up system. In this sector the last stage is where most of the lost revenue sits.
- 1
Fix the Profile Setup
Service-area configuration corrected, categories set to the work you actually want, hours accurate including out of hours, and any duplicate or spam listings nearby reported.
- 2
Emergency Pages
Fast, tap-to-call pages for the urgent searches, with opening hours, response times and coverage stated plainly above the fold.
- 3
Area Coverage
A genuine page per town or borough you serve, each with local detail, local jobs and local proof rather than a find-and-replace.
- 4
Accreditation & Reviews
Trade body and scheme listings claimed and made consistent, then a review pipeline triggered on job completion while the customer is still pleased.
- 5
Speed to Lead
Missed-call text-back, instant routing and out-of-hours cover, so the calls the rankings produce actually convert.
The part most agencies get wrong
Listings & Guidelines
Trade listings are the most aggressively spammed category in local search, which cuts both ways. Competitors ranking above you with keyword-stuffed names and addresses they do not occupy can be reported, and it works. Meanwhile the shortcuts an agency might take on your behalf are exactly what gets your own listing suspended.
I do this the durable way, and part of the job is cleaning up the market around you rather than joining it.
- No keyword stuffing in the business name: it is a guideline breach, it is reportable, and it is the fastest route to a suspension.
- No virtual or borrowed addresses: service-area setup exists for van-based businesses and it works properly when configured correctly.
- Competitor spam reported: fake addresses and stuffed names above you removed through the proper process, which often moves you up without touching your own site.
- Accreditation claims kept accurate: Gas Safe and scheme numbers displayed correctly, because customers check and so does Google.

Questions,
Answered
How much does SEO for a trade business in London cost?
Trade SEO retainers in London commonly run from £750 to £2,500 a month depending on how many areas you want to cover, since area pages are the bulk of the work. Working with a consultant removes the agency overhead. I will quote after the audit.
I work from a van with no shopfront. Can I still rank?
Yes, and this is the single most common thing set up wrong in the sector. You are a service-area business, which means your address stays hidden and you define the areas you cover instead. Done properly you rank across your service area. Done badly, or faked with a virtual address, you get capped or suspended.
How far can I realistically rank from my base?
In the Map Pack, proximity is a hard constraint and you will not dominate a borough twelve miles away on your profile alone. Organic area pages are how you reach further, and they are the reason a trade site with twenty real area pages beats one with a single contact page listing thirty towns.
Competitors are outranking me with fake addresses. Can anything be done?
Yes. Keyword-stuffed names and addresses that do not exist are guideline breaches, and reporting them through the proper process works more often than people expect. Clearing the spam above you sometimes improves your position without changing anything on your own site.
Is SEO worth it if I am booked out already?
Possibly not, and I will say so. If you are turning work away, the honest answer is usually to fix pricing or capacity before demand. Where it does pay off while busy is shifting the mix, so you get more of the profitable jobs and fewer of the ones you dislike.
Do you handle the follow-up side too?
Yes, and in this sector the two are hard to separate. Rankings that produce calls nobody answers are an expensive way to feel busy. The automation work is on its own page, and for most trade clients it runs alongside the SEO from the start.
