Law Firm SEO in London

One instruction can be worth more than a year of a trade client's work, which changes the maths entirely. You do not need more traffic. You need the specific people with the specific matter your firm is best placed to handle, and you need them to trust a named solicitor before they call.

Legal search is also the most heavily scrutinised category Google has. It sits squarely in the territory where the algorithm asks who wrote this and why should anyone believe them, and firms that answer that badly do not rank regardless of budget.

Why legal search rewards

Named Expertise

Most firm websites have a Services page listing eleven practice areas in a bulleted column. That page ranks for nothing, because it demonstrates no depth in any of them. A firm with one genuinely thorough page on contested probate will outrank it for contested probate every time.

The second problem is anonymity. Legal content written by nobody in particular competes badly against content attributed to a named, qualified, verifiable solicitor with a profile, an SRA number and a history of similar matters.

What that changes in the campaign:

  • A page per practice area: and where the volume justifies it, a page per matter type within that area, written with the depth a prospective client is actually looking for.
  • Named solicitor profiles: qualifications, SRA registration, practice focus and matter experience, cross-linked to the practice areas each person handles.
  • Transparency pages that rank: the SRA requires you to publish price and service information, and those pages attract exactly the searches competitors refuse to answer.
  • Urgency separated from research: immigration and injunction work is urgent, conveyancing is price-compared, probate is patient. Different pages, different calls to action.
  • Reviews handled carefully: a review system that respects confidentiality and never puts a client in the position of identifying their own matter publicly.

Practice areas I build for

Specialisms

Each of these is its own search market with its own urgency and its own competition. Grouping them onto one page is why most firm sites underperform.

Conveyancing

High volume, price compared and deadline driven. Transparency pages and quote flows do most of the work.

Family Law

Sensitive, urgent and reputation led. Tone matters as much as ranking, and named solicitors close it.

Immigration

Urgent, specific and often searched in a second language. Matter-type pages beat a single overview every time.

Wills & Probate

Patient research, older audience, and a market where contested matters carry the real value.

Employment

Split between employer retainers and individual claims, which are two separate audiences on one site.

Accountancy & Advisory

Recurring rather than transactional. Service pages plus sector pages, because accountants win on specialism.

The legal

Local SEO Playbook

Authority first, then depth, then volume. Doing it the other way round is how firms end up with a hundred thin pages that rank for nothing.

  1. 1

    Authority Foundations

Named solicitor profiles built properly, with SRA numbers, qualifications and practice focus, then linked from everything those people are responsible for.

  2. 2

    Practice Area Depth

The two or three areas where the firm is genuinely strongest get thorough pages first. Breadth comes after depth, not instead of it.

  3. 3

    Transparency & Cost

SRA price and service information published as proper pages rather than a buried PDF, which turns a compliance obligation into a ranking asset.

  4. 4

    Profile & Local Signals

Google Business Profile configured for a professional services firm, with the practice areas as services and the office genuinely verifiable.

  5. 5

    Measure by Matter Type

Tracking that tells you which practice area an enquiry came from, so you can see which pages produce instructions worth having.

The part most agencies get wrong

SRA Compliance

Legal marketing sits under SRA regulation, and the rules are not decoration. The Transparency Rules require certain firms to publish price and service information in a specific way, and the Code of Conduct governs how you can describe what you do.

Most SEO agencies have never read either document. That produces two failures: copy that overstates outcomes, and a missed opportunity, because the transparency pages you are obliged to publish happen to target exactly the searches your competitors avoid.

  • SRA Transparency Rules: price, service and complaints information published as indexable pages rather than a downloadable file nobody finds.
  • No guaranteed outcomes: case results described factually, without implying a result in someone else's matter.
  • Regulated status displayed correctly: SRA number and the digital badge where they are supposed to be, which is a trust signal as well as a requirement.
  • Client confidentiality in reviews: a review process that never pressures a client to describe a matter publicly.

Questions,
Answered

How much does law firm SEO in London cost?

London legal SEO retainers commonly run from £1,500 to £5,000 a month, partly because the content genuinely takes longer to produce and partly because agencies price on the value of an instruction. Working with a consultant removes the account management layer. I will quote after the audit rather than before.

We have eleven practice areas. Do we need a page for each?

Eventually, but not first. Two or three thorough pages in the areas where you are strongest will outperform eleven shallow ones, and they give the site the topical depth it needs before you expand. Publishing all eleven thin is the most common way firms waste a year.

Who writes the content, and will it be legally accurate?

I write the structure and the draft, then it goes to the responsible solicitor for review before publication. That is not optional. Nobody should publish legal content on your firm's name without a qualified person signing it off, and the review also improves the writing.

Does SEO work for conveyancing when clients compare on price?

It works particularly well, because the SRA already requires you to publish your fees. Most firms treat that as a compliance chore and hide it in a PDF. Turned into a proper quote and transparency page it captures the exact searches your price-comparing client is making.

Can you get reviews without compromising confidentiality?

Yes, and it needs designing rather than automating blindly. The request timing, the wording and the platform all change so that a satisfied client can vouch for the service without describing their matter. Family and immigration work especially needs this handled properly.

Do you work with competing firms in the same practice area?

No. One firm per practice area per area of London. If I am already acting for a conveyancer in Islington, I will not take a second one.
